People who review just to say "you made a mistake at X" annoy me. At least sugar coat it with "hey, I've been reading this story for 28 chapters and it's pretty good but you did X"

ALSO it helps if you double check your facts about X, particularly if it's say, canon material not that hard to find out.

Cloud's younger than Tifa by a couple of years indeed. HELLO. GAME MANUAL HERE SAYS OTHERWISE. Idiot.

*snrk* Tifa is 20? Cloud is 21? I think maybe they got confused with Aeris?

That's the only thing I could think of, but Aeris isn't that much older than Cloud either; she's 22, which is not "a couple of years" older by any means.

Those people annoy me. And to be honest, the sugar-coating doesn't work. Got a review once at the end of a seventeen-chapter story. Over one hundred thousand words of fic. It began with "You have good spelling and grammar," and then launched into a nit-picky little analysis in which he commented on every single little thing he felt I did wrong. It took me almost ten minutes to read it.

RAR.

See, that's not what I mean. I mean a fair balance between the two. I've gotten reviews that are like "um, this doesn't make sense" and if they're done their research, it may still not.

If they haven't done their research I LAUGH AT THEIR IGNORANCE.

Clearly it's Hojo's labmonkey in disguise, out to stress you.

Actually, this reminds me of my dark times as a newcomer in fandom. I offered to proofread a fic for this guy, and sent it back with comments after almost every paragraph saying stuff like "oh, I really liked this part" and "I think this would read better if you wrote this sentence with this ridiculously small change than otherwise". Poor guy obviously stopped writing after that, and it took me almost a year to figure out why... *flinches and hides face in shame*

Well, I'm not stressed - I'm laughing my butt off.

....ouch. I guess lurking sometimes IS the better policy?

Well, it's certainly the reason why I mostly lurk or crack some wannabe joke in comments nowadays. Whether it's a good policy or a sign of my inability to overcome past mistakes, I don't know.

That's also why, when discussing in comments, even if it's a perfectly civilized discussion, I tend to panic and wonder if I'm being an insufferable nag by sticking to my point :/

Yeesh, annoying people. I can't find anything wrong with your story; its just too good. And if I did, unless it was extremely careless like 'the' as 'hte' or something like that, I'd leave it to you guys to fix.
-sigh- That's never happened to me before. (Admittedly I don't write as often as I should, nor does the stuff come out the way I often want.)Stopping now, before this gets too long.
Ignore the annoying people and be mature about it. (aka, no revenge, like perposefully making the mistake over and over that they commented on.)
Don't like, don't wread, as afic writers often say.

See, if people notice I make a typing error or something like that, I appreciate when they point it out. My editing skills aren't great, but I'd rather not have errors out there!

Well, we did send them a reply saying more or less: the guide book says X. Which is canon. And they actually commented on something in chapter five so...we've already mentioned it several times. XD

Gah. Some people just can't take a hint, huh.

Good luck on the next chapter (not that you need it, really). You have a lot of people waiting in suspense, me included. (Is that proper grammar? Doesn't sound right.)

You're great at this (writing), Bard Linn-san. Love your versions of the character, especially Cloud. ^^
Too cute for words.

Well, they haven't bothered us about it yet, so we'll see.

(Who knows? Who cares? Convo grammar is different than literary writing grammar anyway)

Heee! We have a couple MAJOR cliffies throughout the story. Good for you. :3

Not just me. Kiraya does a LOT of work on this too and polishes up most of my mistakes, not to mention does a great job of writing on her own!

But I'm glad you like Cloud.

Well, separately or not, you and Kiraya-san make great works together.

More like love how Cloud turned out. This got my fix of favorite things I look for in AU fiction. Just perfect. ^^

MAJOR cliffhangers? -.-'' -breaks out into a cold sweat- What kind of cliffhangers? The bad ones that leave us in stunned suspense, like the last, or the good, that make us guess and wonder and have our theories blown away (or confirmed, in rare cases)with the next update?

Yeah, conversing grammar is different than when you write, but I like having good 'speech' in both cases. Gives you practice, you know?

Good that they've left you alone for now. Don't like, don't read, I alway say (and so do other people).

This is getting kinda long.

Good to hear! Anything in particular you want to mention? Your favorite things for an AU?

Oh, some of both. And that's a good cliff hanger, compared to some....

Hey, I don't mind long comments! ^.^

What kind of things can I mention? Well, I've read a lot of AUs (courtesy of ff.net trends), so I know well what I like. Stronger characters, raised by someone else, a small change has bigger consequences, time travel, foreshadowing, changing the past to effect the future, characters that are IC but actually seem real (not the ohmygodsoperfect kind-of Mary-Sues mascaraing under familiar names), OC characters that actually fit... I can go on and on and on.

Yay, good cliff hanger! I wasn't quite sure if you were trying for that or not... Yeah, compared to some. Like when a character dies/blacks out and then it says -End of Chapter- or -To Be Continued...- makes me want to scream or throttle the author. Sometimes it's a good kind of violence that comes to mind, but most of the time, well... I can understand --I'm an author myself-- but sometimes...

Long comments are cool. You talk about stuff in them.

Nice chatting again, Bard Linn-san.

Nothing, really.
Anyone know if you can edit comments and how?
Thanks.
