lanerose The title is definitely a direct reference.
Eclipse
Riza glanced at the clock. Three AM. She sighed and dropped her head back down. Tried not to think how much more space there was on the bed. Tried not to feel the tense awake presences beside her. It wasn’t working. It hadn’t worked for the last nine days. Riza slid out of bed and padded quietly out to the kitchen. A cup of tea wouldn’t help but by now it had become almost routine.
The officer sighed as her tea steeped. ‘He was the only choice,’ she reminded herself. ‘Ed went willingly.’ The alchemist had been the only one able to complete Roy’s latest mission. The only one with the skills and the trust of the people in the area. He had left two weeks ago by train promising to be back soon. Five days later he vanished. Reports had found his distinctive red coat wedged beneath a large pile of rocks in a group of nearby caves. He, along with twenty others, was missing.
Alphonse had retreated to the corners of the house not speaking to anyone. Roy had all but barricaded himself in his office trying to get information through to his contacts in the area. Masuta’s notebook remained on the library coffee table gathering dust. He hadn’t opened it since they had received the call. Riza had spent far too many hours on the range finding comfort in her skill. The house was too quiet. They had to throw out leftovers. The books on in the library stayed on the shelves. They had no idea if Ed would ever come back. If he was…
She refused to think it. Clutching the tea cup as if it was a life line, brown eyes stared at the nearby phone as if to force it into ringing. Riza almost dropped her cup as it did just that. “Hello?”
“Riza?”
“ED?! Are you alright? What happened?”
“Cave in,” the alchemist responded wearily. “A bunch of kids got lost in the mine. I went out with the search party but a major support got taken out. We managed to tunnel out but in order not to bring down the entire place we had to take a round about route. Ended up in the middle of the wilderness. We had a few minor injuries but nothing life threatening. It took this long to get back to civilization.”
“When are you coming back?”
“The first train for Central leaves at seven. Tell Roy he owes me big time for this one. And kick Al and Masuta out of the shower. I’m going to need to soak these muscles.”
Riza stifled a laugh. “Will do.”
“I’ll see you soon.”
Riza hung up and quickly finished her tea. She smiled brightly as she made her way to the bedroom bearing her good news.
Now if I can figure out how to post it at Hos.
Anybody besides me think it's amusing that I'm posting something for a 5-some on the first day of Lent?
Also, had to try to explain to my sister (12 year old) why I needed a livejournal in the first place without saying "oh I just want to write about five people having sex!" Right...

Date: 2005-02-10 05:24 am (UTC)Seriously though, I'm glad you've taken the initiative to write one of them possibly dead - - the smexy goodness has far too much fluff, and was running remarkably short on angst.
And I do think it's amusing... mainly because I'm considering drabbling this direction this evening (after the Carolina game! XDDD) If I may ask, what was the six down one to go thing in reference to? Is this multiple parts? ::puppy eyes:: Oh, you *know* you want write more!!! ^_______^
::pushes a couple of books towards you::
