HoS: LG: Raising Power
Mar. 3rd, 2005 04:46 pmFirst of All, today is the one month aniversity of HoS being its own comm. If you got here and weren't involved in it, *dead silence* I suggest you head on over and take a look. Its a bit confusing at the moment but still lots of fun. Start with the arhive, and NOT the posts.
Set after "Wise Woman" right before "Eyes"
Raising Power
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to startle you,” the young woman smiled. “I thought you were asleep.”
“Not exactly,” Edward forced himself to breathe normally. He found himself carefully examining the figure in front of him.
The woman flushed. “What are you looking at?”
“I’m sorry!” Ed apologized. “You look a great deal like someone I knew.”
“Ah. Some people….” She shook her head. “Rosalind Hawkins.”
“Edward Elric,” Ed smiled. Roze.
“Could you possibly hand me that book?” The woman asked pointing out a thick volume. Edward obliged. “Thank you.”
“What are you researching?” Ed asked.
“Ancient religions,” Rosalind replied. “The mystical aspects associated with them in particular. Would you believe some of their worshipers claim to have traveled to a spirit world?”
Ed felt chills travel down his spine. “Really?”
“Yes. They’ve also claimed to have many gods with various aspects. They often preformed sacrifices to appease them or request favors.”
Equivalent trade, Ed thought mentally smiling. The philosophy that Dante had called ‘childish.’ Giving so much and respecting something in return.
“Some of them used self sacrifice, such as fasting or labor. Other offered up tokens of their labor such as livestock or produce.” Ed nodded and began to gather up the books from earlier. He stood. “The most interesting ones used human sacrifices.”
Ed dropped the books back down on the desk with a bang. “WHAT?”
“Human sacrifice. In some pretty elaborate ways too.”
Ed sat back down. “Where did you find this out?” He quickly jotted down the section of the library. A quick glance at the clock told him he didn’t have time to look today. If he didn’t get back soon the others would worry. He bid Rosalind goodnight and quickly headed back to the Hugheses’.
He would begin tomorrow.
