Familiar: Family Trees
Apr. 9th, 2005 12:38 pmALRIGHT, I SURRENDER ALREADY. IF YOU WON'T LET ME WRITE ANYTHING ELSE...GAH!
Family Trees
It was started by, of all things, a school project.
Rowan’s teacher had assigned them a simple task. Create a family tree encompassing at least ten family members. Rowan had only begun to assemble his project in the library when he discovered something. “Dad?”
“Yes Rowan?” Edward asked, looking up from the book in his hands.
“Where are Grandma and Grampa?”
“They’re in Central. You’ll see them when we go to visit in a few weeks.”
“That’s not what I mean,” Rowan frowned. “I mean your Mom and Dad.” He had never heard of his father speak of either of his parents. And someone’s blood grandparents would be an important member of their family tree.
Ed bent his head, the light glinting eerily off his glasses and hiding his eyes. The eight year old stared at his father in confusion. He’d never seen his father so distant before. Though the child couldn’t read it, an old pain haunted those gold eyes. The man spoke a single sentence that allowed for no discussion.
“They died a long time ago.”
