I have NO idea where this came from....

Arrival

Daniel sat up slowly, spitting out sand. He checked his equipment carefully. Good, the camera wasn’t damaged. As far as he could see, there was only sand. It certainly looked nothing like the metropolis he should have been seeing. “Julie! You must have screwed up the coordinates!”

“I did not!” Julie yelled, looking annoyed.

“We’ve got to get a story for our final journalism project and you landed us in the middle of a desert!” The young man snapped.

The brunette pulled out a strange looking device. “Look, 15795.468-46. Just like you told me.”

Daniel reached into his pocket and pulled out a small notebook. He quickly flipped through it. “I think it was supposed to be 15796.68-46.”

“I TOLD you to work on your handwriting,” Julie growled.

The black haired man ignored her and swung the camera around, looking at the landscape through the familiar lens. He caught sight of a brightly dressed man tromping his way through the desert. Curious, the cameraman activated the recording device, just in time to catch the young man’s collapse into the sand. As Daniel watched in shock, an armored body sprouted from the sand and grasped the young man’s leg. “Julie, look!”

The young woman observed the pair struggle. “Are you taping this?”

“Rolling,” Dan replied. The pair stared as the blond successfully unearthed the armor then kicked the front. Sand poured free, revealing no body.

“Did you see that? There’s no body! And it doesn’t look robotic either! This could be the story of our lifetime! I’ll get out the black cloaks.”

“In THIS weather?” Daniel growled. “We’ll bake to death!”

“We’re off the star charts here, Dan. You know the rules. If we come in contact with a less advanced planet, we can’t be seen. Especially with all of this stuff.”

“Fine, fine…”

“Think the microphone can pick them up?”

“Yeah, no problem. It’s been picking up just about everything. We’ll have to filter our stuff out.” Daniel carefully followed the pair as the man chased the empty armor.

“Stay with them. We’re going to graduate top in our class with this, I can feel it. And if we can figure out how they made that tin can go by itself, we can sell the information and be set for life. That HAS to be more efficient than our androids. Look at it! It’s like it’s alive! I wonder who programmed it.”

“One thing at a time.”

“Right.” And so, when the two strange figures headed out of the desert, the media quick on their heels.

I am NOT continuing this. Nope. Nuh uh. Having consulted with several people, I have firmly decided not to continue this for a variety of reasons. Someone kinds suggested I might try it as an origional story someday. But not now, becuase I am covered in fic bunnies who will kill me if I don't write them. Thanks to those who gave advice and support to both sides.

Actually, this is one ficlet that works better just by itself and leaving the rest up to the imagination. Do we really *want* to read a recap of the entire series? Sure, it's possible, but unless you hit upon something that's pure genius it would probably get quite tedious rather quickly.

A short epilogue, maybe, but really not the best serial fic material.
