I am SUCH a follower....Well, I had fun writing it.

Act 1.1

Okay, blink, look around, reset.

I stared at my surroundings in surprise. I was, apparently, in a field. That’s right, a field. As in countryside. Considering I live right outside of a state capital, this was an understandably surprising sight. Okay, well technically there was a field behind my house, but it was rather small and fenced in by houses, street, railroad and a factory.

So, I was apparently stranded in the middle of a field when I should have been…what was I doing before I got here? I can’t remember. Which, probably meant this was a dream. What else would have caused me to suddenly appear in a completely unfamiliar place without any memory of how I had gotten there?

Well, I thought, maybe I had been transported to some alternate dimension, possibly one in which my favorite characters lived.

Uh huh. Suuuure.

To bad, it would have gotten me out of having to go to Number Theory.

At least my dream had provided a beautiful setting. The entire landscape was bright and colorful, far more than anything I had ever seen in real life. I was dressed comfortably too, in my jeans and sneakers. I pulled off my sweatshirt and tied it about my waist. My t-shirt was enough in the sunny weather.

Now, the question was what to do. Usually, if I realize I’m dreaming I wake up right away. Since that hadn’t happened, I would undoubtedly have to do something until I did. So, options. I guess I could just stay here, but that seemed rather stupid. As Cara had said in The Unicorn Chronicles, staying in one place when you’re lost only makes sense if have someone looking for you. Which probably wasn’t the case here. Thinking of Cara reminded me of what she had done when lost. She had headed towards the sound of water. I guess that was the best solution for now. Look for either a river or a road. Hopefully someone would be around.

So, I scientifically decided on the way to go.

I spun around in circles mentally counting. Upon reaching ten I stopped and headed in that direction.

Okay, not exactly scientific, but, hey, I had no idea where I was. I didn’t have any idea of reference after all.

So I headed off. After a bit the silence began to get to me. I constantly have music on at home. In fact, the one time I had been away from home for a weekend, my parents had commented how quiet it had been. I began to sing the first song in my head, which was, ironically enough, “Walking Man’s Road” from the Last Unicorn soundtrack.

“Horizon rising up to meet the purple dawn
Dust demon screaming, bring an eagle to lead me on
For in my heart I carry such a heavy load
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road, walking Man's road

I'm hungry, weary, but I cannot lay me down
The rain comes, dreary, but there's no shelter I have found
It will be a long time till I find my abode
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road.”

From there I switched to bits of other songs from the soundtrack. Then onto some of my other favorites, such as the songs from Lord of the Rings and Jewel. Eventually I started playing with some of my own lyrics I wanted to eventually write up. My mother was the music creator in the family, I tended to keep more to fiction, but it was fun anyway. Besides, Faulty_Wish gave me song bunnies.

Nearly an hour after setting out, I climbed a rather tall hill. To my joy, a road lay on the other side. I grinned. Though not the asphalt that I usually saw, the road was in good condition and obviously often used. In fact, I thought I could hear footsteps now.

So, I started down the hill. Only to feel a weight on my right shoe. I promptly tripped, and went rolling down the hill in a very ungraceful fashion. Mind, I’m no dancer, but usually I’m better than that. I landed on the road with a hard thud.

That was going to leave a bruise, I thought as I lifted my head from the road and readjusted my glasses. At least they hadn’t broken, that would have been a really big problem. A tiny voice in the back of my head reminded me that one usually didn’t feel pain in dreams. I promptly told it to shut up.

“Are you alright Miss?”

“I’m fine,” I stood and dusted the dirt off my jeans. I looked up to see who had come up the road.

And froze.

Oh why, of all people, did I have to meet him?!?
