That's very sad... I really liked the Dragonriders of Pern, especially the first book.
I'm aware that writers are mortals just like everyone, but it's somehow stranger to hear about their passing. For me it's as though they should be alive as long as their books have a life of their own.
I don't know anything about what kind of life Anna MacCaffrey has lead, but I think she's at least left a legacy and will be remembered by her fans.
