What's been happening?

- Mom and CBL left yesterday for Italy.
- My computer has lost sound (installed some drivers as requested, then computer had a fit saying drivers were corrupt, uninstalled, now have no sound). Will hopefully get Cousin-Who-Builds-Computers eventually to look at it.
- We were working on Cosplay stuff like mad for a bit but then our sewing machine started acting up again. (It's OLLLLLLLD. We really need to send it in to get refurbished but - TIME!!!) Borrowed our neighbors for double colored stuff.
- Have been exercising quite a bit lately. All that good anime is motivation. >D
- Speaking of anime - I have finally, totally fallen for X. Yeah, I know. Only about HOW MANY YEARS LATE? And for the first time in a LONG time I've got a new OTP (as opposed to FFVII, for example where there are a lot of combinations and not so much OTP). Sadly, NOT one of the major ones in the fandom....*le sigh* Planning on investigating X manga and TB manga at con, thought at this point I'll probably have to pay a lot for it. (Went to the store and they only had two of TB and one of X....how you know a series is old....)
- Going out to visit Kiraya tomorrow. We'll probably watch X and possibly some of Trigun.

Oooh, I've had bad experiences with my family's Cousin-who-builds-computers. I hope you really trust yours.

About 4 years ago, we built a good, working computer from parts my sister selected. Right at the end of last year's october, however - right before NaNo, even - it started to turn off without warning, usually when I was saving a nearly completed digital image file :/ It was a motherboard failure.

My sister made a new list of parts and prices and asked father for the money, but, sexist as my father is, he simply grabbed our CPU and landed it at our cousin's store, where it sat for two weeks waiting for some elusive "parts". When it came back, surprise: the motherboard and processor he had installed were inferior to the ones we had selected 4 years before. Not only that, but he had kept our video card (the new motherboard doesn't HAVE a video card slot). The only upgrade was the memory card, from 256 to 512, and yet he acted as if it made the machine an amazing juggernaut. My father blithely defended him - until last month, when we proved that the computer CPU he had bought from Mr. Cousin for 1500 reais actually costed 400, case and all.

To top it off, we had to reinstall windows recently and only then noticed he had NOT given us the motherboard's instalation CD :/ little rat.

Better late than never!

X is great; much angst, interesting and complex characters who *aren't* indestructable a la most American superheroes, very pretty artwork (CLAMP at it's best, dare I say it.) and a decent ongoing storyline.

The movie was a little less coherent (though I liked it anyway), but I did especially enjoy both the manga and the TV series. You've a whole world of fun - and a litre or two of blood and angst - awaiting you in this fan 'verse.
I would imagine that you'd get back-copies of the tankoubon fairly cheaply online as it was published by at least two or three different english-language companies (So I guess it depends on how picky you want to be about which specific edition you desire).

Good luck getting your computer sorted. Mine is intermittently spitting out a Blue Screen of Doom at me. ('fatal hard drive error' cannot be a good message, can it?) I'd be inclined to get a tad hysterical about it, except I managed to get all of my study notes off the hard drive and onto a couple of data sticks in between crashes. Which it looks like it's threatening to do again soon. . .

Can't wait to see how the costumes go, and am looking forward to the next chapter of BE with great anticipation.

Nik.
