Bard Linn: Hi again everyone! We hope you enjoyed chapter 2 of BE! ^.^
Kiraya: WE did, once Vincent stopped being a pain. Again.
Bard Linn: He wasn't THAT bad this time. Relatively speaking.
Kiraya: True, but he needed a good reason to hang around this little hick town. And he wouldn't listen much.
Bard Linn: Hence, the introduction of The Bully.
Kiraya: It was necessary, really. >..>
Bard Linn: ^^; We didn't MEAN to hurt Cloud again! Though the current count stands at two physical torturings. XD;;
Kiraya: *whistles innocently*
Bard Linn: We mention Sephiroth's birthday in here. We should probably explain how we came about this date.
Kiraya: Ahh, the birthdates. I had a lot of fun with the process, actually. It involved a d12, 2d10, and a d20.
Bard Linn: As in dice.
Kiraya: ...what else would they be? o..o Anyway... yes, we rolled for the birthdates of characters not in the game manual.
Bard Linn: Er, we use them to refer to shapes that broke a certain law in discrete math...Oh wait, those were Ms...
Kiraya: THERE YOU GO CONFUSING ME WITH ALL THAT MATH MAJOR CRAP AGAIN. >..<
Bard Linn: >3
Kiraya: Not a particularly scientific method, we'll admit... but it works.
Bard Linn: But anyway, do go on Kiraya.
Kiraya: We rolled a d12 for the month, the percentile dice for which part of the month, a d20 for the day if in the first 2/3 of the month, and a d10 for the day if in the last third of the month. ...Looking back, it seems ridiculously complicated, doesn't it? ^..^;;
Bard Linn: I particularly liked when the dice went flying and landed on the floor.
Kiraya: And we had to chase the damn things all over my room, you mean?
Bard Linn: Yeah.
Kiraya: It WAS funny the first six or eight times, I guess. :P
Bard Linn: You were rolling the dice. :P
Kiraya: Hush. Oh, yes: I would like to inform all of you that Fastred Strife is
entirely Linn's fault, although I admit I found his name good for a giggle when she first came up with it.
Bard Linn: Cloud's parents' names are a reference to a certain thing. Net cookies for you if you figure it out. (Note: Did NOT know Dyne's wife's name at the time we came up with Cloud's mom's name either. XDDD )
Kiraya: ...what kind of cookies?
Bard Linn: Net cookies.
Kiraya: But what FLAVOUR?
Bard Linn: As in, the kind I don't have to bake.
Kiraya: That's the important part.
Bard Linn: Exactly.
Kiraya: No, the flavour's the important part, not the lack of baking! >..<
Bard Linn: Course, baking warms up the house.
Kiraya: Point.
Bard Linn: Hm... you see a bit of how the Turk system works in this chapter. BE-verse, anyway. There will be more on this eventually. Not that it's terribly important to the plot, but it's one of those details Kiraya is so fond of. ;-)
Kiraya: If we don't know how it works, how are we supposed to be able to really write about it well? :P
Bard Linn: I'm not arguing, just pointing it out.
Kiraya: *nod* I feel more comfortable having a system to work off of.
Bard Linn: Works. ...Cloud is so cute in this chapter. ;.; *goes to Cloud fangirl land*
Kiraya: ...and there she goes again. -..-
Bard Linn: *points* LOOK ZACK.
Kiraya: WHERE?
Bard Linn: Chapter 6!
Kiraya: (Vincent: *is ignored* ;-;)
Bard Linn: *shot*
Kiraya: >..<
Bard Linn: To get back to business... Tifa wasn't supposed to be in this chapter at first, but she snuck her way in here. I'm glad she did, because this scene starts the change in her character.
Kiraya: ...I shall save my Tifa fangirling for when we actually do more with her....You know, I NEVER thought I would use that phrase when referring to myself. Tifa fangirling, that is.
Bard Linn: *snickers* Well, by the end our Tifa is very interesting... but that would be telling, so I'll shush.
Kiraya: Please do, before I start rambling anyway. :P
Bard Linn: Shushing, ma'am!...I like that title for Vincent. Cloud's Vampire.
Kiraya: Well, he found the man dressed in a cape, lying in a coffin beneath an abandoned mansion. Makes perfect sense, if you think about it. :P
Bard Linn: Ah! A very important note for this chapter and EVERY chapter: Chapters will be coming out approximately every two weeks, real life and other things permitting.
Kiraya: *nodnodnod*
Bard Linn: And yes, at present we are ahead of ourselves, as in we have more than two chapters done. That's because everything goes through at least two edits. We need time to do this.
Kiraya: It's also quite helpful for catching continuity errors.
Bard Linn: Very. XD;;
Anything else to say, Kiraya?
Kiraya: Hmmmm... We addressed the getting-Vin-to-stay-around issue... Getting him to train Cloud was almost as troublesome. But our dear friend Jack helped out there.
Bard Linn: Ah yes, Mr. Bully.
Kiraya: Don't mind him; he's just a big ol' squishy Plot Device, and won't be around too much.
Bard Linn: It should be noted that the next chapter will be after a time jump. Cloud will be older and things will sloooooooowly move their way along towards Plot. In fact, it is pretty obvious this story is going to be slow-moving in general. It focuses a lot on character interaction as opposed to slash 'em, slice 'em, put them in a stew... wait, that's potatoes.
Kiraya: Actually, I do believe it's "boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew." But I do rather like the slash part. *evil grin*
Bard Linn: I meant slash. As in sword.
Kiraya: Oh. Dammit.
Bard Linn: What you do in most of FFVII, my dear.
Kiraya: ...wait, fandom or game?
Bard Linn: Game.
Kiraya: Oh. Very well, then.
Spoilsport.
Bard Linn: But character interaction is fun, so all is good.
Kiraya: Indeed!
Bard Linn: I think that's it...
Kiraya: I can't think of anything else to add...
Oh, yes -- We'd like to wish all of you a very happy and healthy New Year. See you next chapter!

Date: 2005-12-31 03:25 am (UTC)Elanor is Samwise Gamgee's first daughter, named after a flower that grows in Lothlórien Wood.
Fastred - I can't quite find the name in the appendices (of LotR) but I know it's a hobbit name as well.
Part of me is making usless connections between LotR and FF7 - namely that Tolkien loved the Finnish language, and the name "Nibelheim" is very Scandanavian (or certainly Wagnerian).
