We've managed to figure out 4 out of the 6 problem set problems for Geometry. (Teacher considers 2 right as a C). Writing them up has kept me rather busy today. *sigh* I'll hopefully find out exactly what I'm supposed to be teaching Tuesday so my partner and I can start on our unit planning, as it is due in the beginning of March. That should give us three weeks - on top of everything else.

I visited Kiraya yesterday evening. Along with plotting we also had this conversation.

Linn: And 228 wasn't our old Japanese classroom.

Kiraya: That's odd. The number is familiar.

Linn: It's your DORM ROOM NUMBER.

Kiraya: Kiraya takes 300 HP damage from stupid! Wait, it's a status changer. What cures stupid? Never mind, just give me a remedy.

XD

Speaking of Kiraya, I hope you got home safe with the snow! It's stopped here right now and isn't sticking to the street, though the grass is coated. Still, who knows what will happen later?

Kaz is right. This is very addictive. And it might manage to beat my Katakana into me finally....

Edit:....there are Wi and We katakana? o.O SINCE WHEN?

BE update tonight! Less than two hours. ^.^

The SFA NPCs are on my newly written List of Best Things Ever :D And Jenk's brother is great.

I haven't actually played it in a number of months ^^; Probably something like eight or nine. I still remember most of my kana now, as well as a good forty or so kanji ♥ And while I don't know a great deal of Japanese, it's helpful for the little I do know. And it's also good for recognizing puns sometimes. Like this one symbol pun in Sailor Moon or the really terrible one in my icon.

...come to think of it, I think I originally found this game when you praised its NPCs on CFUD. O_o small world it is.

I'm afraid I don't know enough kanji to decipher your icon yet! I only finished with the hiragana yesterday and I'm having more trouble keeping the kanji straight than the different kana.

What I'm mostly using it for is sound effects in manga! Because even if the speech is translated, the sound effects in the background usually aren't, or they're listed at the back or something impractical like that.

And, of course, should I ever start actually learning Japanese I'll have a head start. I have a book somewhere here on conversational Japanese admittedly, it's from 1930s Germany so I'm slightly dubious as to what phrases may turn up which doesn't do any kana or kanji so it's good I can learn these somewhere else.

Wait, seriously? That is so cool! :DDD

Ahahah ^_^;; I am a very bad person for this icon. See, the number four (四) can be pronounced either 'yon' or 'shi'. The kanji for death (死) is also pronounced 'shi'. That character there is the fourth hokage, or 'yondaime hokage'. He is also dead. Therefore, in this case, does yondaime = shidaime?

Sound effects are good fun, but it is a major pain to always turn back and read them at the end of the book.

The preview pages in the backs of Del Rey manga are very helpful for practice, I've found. I also have a link to a bunch of pages online for learing and studying Japanese, but I don't know exactly where it is at the moment ^^;

I lurk. I have, in fact, been lurking since June. Which is kind of embarassing in some ways. >< And Tsunade turning into an NPC was comic GOLD.

Ah! I get it. :) Weird Japanese kanji with their multiple pronunciation stuff. But I guess they're good for puns!

Exactly! Especially if there aren't many page numbers and the sound effects are ordered by page. Just reading them is easier... although I still make many mistakes. But I'm getting there.

Thank you for the tips! I've been wanting to learn Japanese for ages now, what with my addiction to anime and all, but never really found the time. ^^;;
I'm also practicing with various openings and endings of anime series. If someone's singing, they often show the english translation, the phonetic transcription and the Japanese symbols for the lyrics, which lets me practise a bit and immediately check that I got everything right. It's just annoying having to pause all the time because I can't read that quickly yet, and there are always kanji mixed in that I have no clue about.
