Ascension: Heavenly Delights

Heavenly Delights

Edward allowed the last of the power to ebb and collapsed back into his chair. His instructor beamed. “You’re making progress I think,” Skuld announced happily. The petite Goddess gathered up the materials.

Ed barely managed to lift his head. “Doesn’t feel like it.”

“Oh, that’s normal.” Skuld replied. “You weren’t accessing power before; that’s why you didn’t feel tired. The fact you’ve managed to use your mana is impressive.”

“Sure, if you say so.”

“Now, we find out what your recharge method is.” Skuld accessed the Yggdrasil data quickly. “Ah, yes, it’s right here. Milk.”

“WHAT?” Ed yelped.

“You have to drink milk to regain your strength.”

Ed gave Skuld an incredulous look. “You want me to DRINK MILK?”

“You say it like it’s a bad thing,” Skuld replied. She left and quickly returned, bearing a tall glass. “Now drink.”

Ed stared at the glass. He stared at Skuld. The goddess made a particular gesture and raised an eyebrow. Darn, it was so much easier to get away with not drinking the vile stuff when you weren’t dealing with someone who could fry you. Ed took a hold of the glass and took a tiny sip…

Al came in, feeling exhausted. It had been a bad day to run errands. It was hot, there was some sort of holiday making a ton of traffic and he had to go to three different stores just to find all of the food they needed. He couldn’t wait to go to bed.

“AL! Welcome back!” Ed came skipping to the door. He grabbed the bags and moved back out to the kitchen. “How was your trip?”

“Are you feeling okay Niisan?”

“Me? I’m just FINE Al!” Ed all but sang as he unpacked the bag. “I don’t suppose you got any milk? We’re all out.”

Al stared. “There was a whole gallon when I left.”

“Yup! It was good too!”

“Niisan, you DRANK MILK?!?”

“He’s DRUNK off of it you mean,” Skuld moaned. “I had no idea gods could get drunk off of their recharge method.”

“Recharge method?” Al asked, watching his brother dance around the room.

“Way to restore the energy he uses,” Skuld replied. “He’s high.”

“Oh what a BEAUTIFUL MORNING! Oh what a BEAUTIFUL DAY! I’ve got a wonderful FEELING! Everything’s GOIN’ my WAY!”

“Shoot me now,” Al groaned, wincing at the badly pitched singing.

“No way. If I have to suffer, so do you.” Skuld replied.

“And here I thought this would be easy,” Al sighed. “I’m going to bed. Tell me when Niisan’s back to normal.”

“But!” Skuld decided then and there this was the hardest assignment she had ever received.

“Have you seen the MUFFIN man, the MUFFIN man? …”
