Endings
Nina hit the ground hard as the homunculus tackled her. She mentally swore and attempted to roll away. The automail hand held her fast. Damn this human form and its limitations! She’d have to use a non-conventional form of fighting. Of course that could attract negative attention from several forces. She closed her eyes and focused, attempted to clear her mind. She assembled the words in her mind and spoke them quickly. The expressions tore through the air, painful to speak but far more painful to hear.
The homunculus named “Wrath” went flying as the floor shifted under him. Nina forced herself to her feet. That idiot was blind, deaf and mute compared to her. He didn’t remember how to Speak, and that gave her an advantage. Of course, it was a lot harder to do now than it had been in the older days. The bindings were still there. Damn Gate. “This time you’ll be dead for good,” she hissed, assembling the instructions in her mind and reaching for the power from the parallel world. The instructions for dismantling a homunculus were long. It would take her a good two minutes to get ready.
Too long.
Wrath recovered and launched himself at her. Nina held fast the terms in her mind and dodged. No time to assemble the entire mess. She would just have to start Speaking right now and fill in the rest as she got there. The harsh words shook the air again. Wrath stumbled back, the incantation striking at his very essence. Nina allowed herself to Speak slowly, arranging the last of the words of the words almost lazily.
Wrath abruptly leapt forward, his automail limbs uninhibited by the forces attacking his body. The automail hand clamped down on Nina’s neck. She was forced to do the worst thing possible. She stopped the Speech. The power raised immediately back lashed, causing her to collapse as pain shot through her system. This human body was so weak!
Wrath wrapped both hands about Nina’s throat. The door flew open. Izumi rushed in, eyes widening at the scene before her. Her hands clapped, forcing the floor up between the combatants, separating them. Wrath fell backward, a look of betrayal flashing across his face. He snarled at Izumi and left by the window.
Izumi quickly approached Nina, who had collapsed on the floor. Blood leaked out of the corner of her mouth. Twin tears dropped from her eyes. Nina struggled to her hands and knees and heaved. Blood splattered the ground. Izumi scooped the child up and quickly headed out the door, yelling for someone to call a doctor.
Nina barely noticed. She was more concerned with the salt water staining her face. Tears. She had cried. Crying was a human, mortal thing. She was tainted. There would be no returning to the void for her. She would never be able to rejoin her sibs. Clutching the white fabric of Izumi’s dress, she wept for everything she had lost.
Where would she go now?
