Summary: Edward has a visitor.
Awakening
Alphonse Elric shifted again, trying to keep his movements as quiet as possible. One of the many problems with this form was his inability to sleep. It made the hours of the night when his brother was asleep difficult. Even more so when he had something to think about. And a great many things had happened recently.
First, there were the homunculi. Then Edward returned from Risenbourg a short while ago. However, something had been weighing on his mind ever since. The elder Elric refused to share it with his brother. Al mentally sighed. Edward could be so stubborn. Then Colonel Mustang had vanished last month, creating an even more stressed atmosphere. His subordinates were going crazy looking for him.
A sound caught his attention. “Brother?” Edward froze. “Where are you going?”
“It’s time.”
Al froze at the cold words. Suddenly he knew, right down to the center of his soul, what had happened. “Catalyst.”
The figure turned to face him. Gold eyes lacked their usual warmth and energy. “Yes.”
Alphonse stood, anger radiating like heat off of his metal form. “What are you doing? Brother can’t leave now!”
“Al-”
“Brother, don’t go,” Al pleaded, well aware that this could very easily end in his brother’s death. “You need to stay here. We have to work for a cure. I need you!”
Ed flinched at the last sentence and looked indecisive for a minute. “Al, I can’t. Don’t ask me to stay. This is bigger than us.”
“Let someone else do it then!”
“There is no one else who can,” Edward whispered. “Al, I have no choice.”
“Alright,” Al acquiesced. “Catalyst, you hurt my brother and I’ll hunt you down myself.”
“Understood.” The blond headed figure left the room.
Al would have given anything to have the ability to cry.
