Maybe Chocobo Lure materia are like Pokeballs, and the birds you decide to "send back to your stable" just hang out inside 'em until you get back to the farm...?

*grins* I always rather thought they sent Cid back to the stables with it. Or if not Cid, then one of the others. After all, they have that nifty little airship so why not use it?
