Well, we have an apology now. Late coming? Absolutely. But I don't think this entire thing has been a disaster. Here's why:

1) It bonded fandom together, which I always count as a good thing. Not just within one fandom either, but across the board.

2) It bonded fandom and non-fandom, which is even rarer.

3) We've shown them what we can do and that we mean business. Fandom will continue to do so until things are put to rights. SixApart knows what they're really dealing with now, and I think they got a bit of a shock.

4) If something like this comes up again, I suspect the response from LJ will be better.

Now, on a personal scale, I'm staying with LJ. (Since I have a permanent account it would be rather dumb not to, plus I haven't gotten my money's worth out of it yet.) I like LJ. And while I don't trust them, I am willing to give them a second chance, because we all screw up royally at times and more people involved involves more screwing up. I can even see part of the reason for the long silence - LJ is big and it takes a while to look into. I'm willing to wait and see what happens.

Those of you planning on leaving, I'll miss you. Those of us just on LJ will miss you. I am not, however, going to get more journals just to follow you, because frankly, I don't have the time to check 3 different journal friend lists a day.

Those of you planning on not buying anything else from LJ, good for you. Being a permanent account holder means I don't have to renew mine, but I'm considering not buying anything else for anyone else either.

As far as content for this journal goes, things are more or less going to be the same. I haven't posted explicit stuff here and will not in the future. Technically my profession puts me as a public servant, so I've always been careful about that type of stuff. (Those of you wondering about Genderswitch verse, [personal profile] kiraya and I have basically decided we're going to make a comm just for that we can both post in, seeing as it DOES have explicit stuff.)

In other news, I have an interview in an hour. It's down to three candidates for the position, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I have to agree with you, I like LJ, and even though I have other journals on other sites, I don't really want to have to pick up and move totally.

I was really heartened to see how everyone came together in solidarity. All of the comments I chanced to read were in support of fandom and at last count [profile] user was up to 26487 and that boggles the mind. I'm just glad that after that apology we may get some sort of resititution but frankly unless I see [profile] user back up I'm not holding my breath.

That was really 48 very uncomfortable hours D: I just hope they will learn from this error and never do something like that again.

I'm glad you'll stay at LJ! I would have been sad if I had to move to another journal.

Good luck with the interview *hugs*

Yeah! I'm feeling better, though not sure how much until I actually see what they do.

Nope! I'm here for good. :)

*nods in agreement* I like to think that will happen though.

I think there was way too much overreacting around. From Sixapart, from the WFI peoplethingies, and from fandom. It was annoying, but it was also silly. I like lj, even if my journal is depressingly low-traffic, and when I can I do intend to buy stuff from them - some more iconspace at least.

Also, all the luck in the world to your interview.

Honestly, I don't think fandom was over reacting until an offical statement was made. Things going POOF with no given reason is distrubing.

Thanks! I think it went pretty well. Just need to see if I got the job now...

Yeah. Plus my fanfic archive is here, which mind you is an archive of other people's fic and most all of it located here on LJ, and all of my favourite comms are here.

I have to agree with Bard, Fandom's reaction has made LJ reconsider the way they overreacted and has got back... at least [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies.
