Weighing in on the Strikethrough
May. 31st, 2007 09:15 amWell, we have an apology now. Late coming? Absolutely. But I don't think this entire thing has been a disaster. Here's why:
1) It bonded fandom together, which I always count as a good thing. Not just within one fandom either, but across the board.
2) It bonded fandom and non-fandom, which is even rarer.
3) We've shown them what we can do and that we mean business. Fandom will continue to do so until things are put to rights. SixApart knows what they're really dealing with now, and I think they got a bit of a shock.
4) If something like this comes up again, I suspect the response from LJ will be better.
Now, on a personal scale, I'm staying with LJ. (Since I have a permanent account it would be rather dumb not to, plus I haven't gotten my money's worth out of it yet.) I like LJ. And while I don't trust them, I am willing to give them a second chance, because we all screw up royally at times and more people involved involves more screwing up. I can even see part of the reason for the long silence - LJ is big and it takes a while to look into. I'm willing to wait and see what happens.
Those of you planning on leaving, I'll miss you. Those of us just on LJ will miss you. I am not, however, going to get more journals just to follow you, because frankly, I don't have the time to check 3 different journal friend lists a day.
Those of you planning on not buying anything else from LJ, good for you. Being a permanent account holder means I don't have to renew mine, but I'm considering not buying anything else for anyone else either.
As far as content for this journal goes, things are more or less going to be the same. I haven't posted explicit stuff here and will not in the future. Technically my profession puts me as a public servant, so I've always been careful about that type of stuff. (Those of you wondering about Genderswitch verse,
kiraya and I have basically decided we're going to make a comm just for that we can both post in, seeing as it DOES have explicit stuff.)
In other news, I have an interview in an hour. It's down to three candidates for the position, so I'm crossing my fingers.
