Susan had known, intellectually, that it would be difficult to take over the Rangers. She was older than most recruits and it was highly demanding physical work. She had to adjust to Minbar’s shorter days and a new diet, mixed Minbari and human food. The former Earthforce General also was learning the art of the denn’bok, the Minbari fighting pike, along with the other requirements: the languages of all three of Minbar’s three casts, Minbari philosophy and meditation. And she wasn’t training just to be a regular ranger but their leader, which further increased the vast knowledge she had to learn.
But the emotional burdens demanded even more energy than the physical ones. John Sheridan had only recently passed away, leaving a hole is Susan’s heart. She deeply cared for her former commanding officer and to lose him, even when she knew it was going to happen, had left her feeling very empty. In the years after being stationed on Babylon 5-after Marcus- Susan had let very few into her heart. It made those who where there even more important to her and left her feeling far more empty when they left.
Delenn, Susan knew, had it far worse. She had lost not only a close friend, but her life mate. The Minbari would live alone for decades, possibly even a century. Yet she carried on, fulfilling her duties as President of the Interstellar Alliance and helping Susan take over John’s position.
Luckily she wasn’t as unprepared for her job as she had feared. In many ways she had been training to become a Ranger since she was a commander on Babylon 5. No, since she had met Marcus. The man had taught her a lot; she had even begun to learn Minbari in self-defense. In the years following she began to learn some of her own world’s staff arts. That experience served her well now in her current martial arts studies.
Susan walked through the streets of Tuzanor, head bowed in thought. Fading light glistened on the crystal spires that formed the city. Her footsteps lead her to a familiar place.
The Chapel.
The door closed silently behind her. Susan quietly made her way toward the front, glancing up at the statue of Valen. It looked nothing like Sinclair that was for certain. She settled down onto the front most seat and slowly allowed herself to focus inward. She found it easiest to meditate here. This place was soothing, both to mind and body.
“I see you also like this place, Anla’shok Na.”
Susan’s head snapped up at the unfamiliar voice, fingers reaching for the denn’bok at her side. Her eyes focused on the Minbari in front of her. “Who are you?”
The man didn’t answer. “I have always liked this place. I remember another who did. Anla’shok Cole.” Susan froze. The Minbari placed something besides her. Susan picked up the Minbari fighting pike with shaking hands. “Perhaps it is foolish of me, but I believe if Marcus could not be here, Susan, he would wish his weapon to guard your side.”
“Who are you?” Susan repeated again, hands shaking.
“A friend.” The Minbari replied. He turned and slowly strolled out of the Chapel.
Susan stayed frozen for a moment then ran after him. “Wait, I don’t understand!” She burst through the doors.
And only saw night.
And who was this strange Minbari? Well, that would be telling! Let me know your guess, I’ll tell you if you’re right.
Hehehehe. Happy birthday to

As for the Minbari, I'm guessing the guy who was Delenn's aide (whose name totally escapes me at the moment... Oh, Lenier (sp?)).
But yes, great fic!!

Hint: Look at the way he addresses Susan. Think about whether a normal Minbari would do that.
B5 is love. I can rewatch parts of that endlessly.

Seriously need to rewatch the series.

Delenn mentions in one episode being lost in a temple and being comforted by an unknown Minbari who vanished on her later. Since more likely than not Valen/Sinclair ended up being taken by the Vorlons/first ones its possible he's around in a nonphysical form.

With the vorlons involved, then it's definately possible he's still around.

I ♥ Susan so much. This is also the first post series fic I've read for B5, so snaps to you m'dear ~ especially as it was pulled off *quite* well.
As for the strange Minbari, I can't say whereas I know, though that's probably because it's been a while since I last saw the series. (::makes a note to go buy some DVDs::) ^.~ I feel like I've forgotten something major, here, too, which is annoying. XDD On the other hand, I really like the idea of Marcus continuing to guard her.
::glomps triplet:: THANKS!!!! This fic is love! ^________________^ ::snuggles you happily::

Yes buy the DVDs. Worth EVERY PENNY. Except maybe the final session. But then again, it doesn't have Ivanova OR Marcus so I'm a little basised.
*snuggles back*
