To Turn Back Time
“I’m staying here.”
“Don’t be stupid,” Ed growled. “Al would kill me. He wants to see you.”
Hohenheim didn’t argue with his son. He watched as the Gate opened. The pair of Elrics stepped through and then…
Pain
Hohenheim caught his son’s words as he blacked out. “No! Dad!”
Hohenheim started at his surroundings and sighed. He wasn’t quite sure why he had returned here. He had arrived at this spot two years ago when he was thrown out of the Gate. He had quickly discovered Alchemy did not work here, in this place called Okinawa. Which meant that he had not arrived home. It wasn’t, however, the country he had left either.
It had taken him quite a bit of time to learn the language of this country, Japan. He was still steadily making progress in the written aspect. The system was far more complex than his own. Hohenheim hadn’t tried to cross back over since his arrival. In his heart, he knew that he would never return to his own world. The alchemist had resolved to live out his life to the best of his ability here.
A soft sound caught his attention. Hohenheim walked quietly over to a small figure. It was a young boy. And he was obviously distraught. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing!” The boy snapped with a defensiveness that was painfully familiar.
“Ah.”
The pair stayed in silence for a bit. “I miss Kotori and Fuuma.”
“Your friends?” Hohenheim asked, sitting next to the child.
“They’re back in Tokyo. We had to move.”
“I see,” Hohenheim replied. “Would you tell me about them?”
The boy looked suspicious. “Why would you want to know?”
“Why not?”
After a bit, the boy began to speak. He talked about the games he had played with his two best friends and how he had helped rescue some baby birds. Eventually, their time was called to an end by a summoning from the child’s mother. “Kamui! Time to come in!”
“Coming!” Kamui called back. He stood quickly and smiled at Hohenheim. “I’ve got to go. Maybe I’ll see you again?”
“Perhaps.” Hohenheim watched the child run back to his home. He felt his heart twist. He would give anything to turn back the hands of time and have his son sitting beside him, in the boy’s place.
I apologize if the characterizations are terrible. My knowledge of young Kamui is…almost nonexistent. *shot* Er, I tried?
