Otakon Report!
Okay
stickmarionette, you wanted a detailed con report…
We (my parents, sister and two cousins) left NJ around eightish to go Otakon. Unfortunately, a fuse had wiggled loose. Luckily it only worked the radio, dvd player and the like, though it made it a sad thing as we weren’t able to watch anime on the way down and resorted to guessing games instead. We got into Baltimore a little after noon; there had been little traffic. Getting our badges was very easy this year, as the lines were very short. After that I began the great Phone Tag – putting in calls to
icedark_elf and
kytyngurl2 then we headed up to our room. After bringing up the luggage, it was time to cosplay. I was in my Canti outfit, my cousins as Haruko and Mamimi, and ready to brave the con!
There is nothing better for my ego than cosplaying Canti. It’s a great costume for getting hugs and lots and lots of pictures. My Canti outfit is very cool- I’ll post pictures soon. The only problem is the gloves; can’t take photos in it so I have to have my cousins take them. Things to note this time: Someone recognized the costume from last year and thought I had improved it. It was amusing to tell him that no, all of the details were there last year. Canti got a kiss on his face mask – a first- and two young men came dashing down a set of stairs screaming “Lord Canti” and threw themselves at my feet, bowing. I also was told I was going to get my picture taken for a documentary about otaku. (I did, with Mamimi and Haruko. Was fun.) And I got to sneak up on someone and scare them. Also had robot battle with someone.
Friday we mostly spent in the dealers room [managed to run into
icedark_elf,
youkofujima and
kytytngurl2, whom I gave three ponies. ; ) ] then hit anime after dinner. We watched some of Bleach (Yup, no longer Bleach-less) and the Count of Monte Cristo. After that we hit Artist Ally.
Saturday was Read or Die day. I was Yomiko Readman, my cousins as twin Miss Deeps. A lot less pictures today, but we did make someone’s day who had been looking for RoD cosplayers. I got a free shirt for my costume too. Also ran into two other Yomikos (one of whom was from my school’s anime club) and another Deep, outside of a MANGA shop in the dealers room, irony of all ironies.
Hit dealers room and Artist Alley again, and saw cosplay. Was disappointed. Not many good ones this year. T.T I think we watched more anime in there, but am not sure. I do know we watched some RW back in the room. Ran into icedark and Kyt again, the latter of whom I now have photographical proof off her existence. Greed has some of me. >D
Sunday was a bit of a downer day. We had backed the night before and helped get stuff ready for the trip home. We made one last run in Artist Alley and the Dealers Room, watched a bit ofCase Closed Detective Conan and headed up to get seats for Piano Squall’s concert, picking up lunch from the parents and running into Icedark on the way there. I got to talk with Icedark while we waited for the concert to start. Which was fun. The concert itself was wonderful, even better than last year’s. PS is very talented; definitely something to check out if you have the time. <333333333 DEFINITELY the best part of the con, for us at least. Sadly, after the concert we went our separate ways. My cousins went back with their parents and I headed off to Virginia on the family vacation.
Otakon is my one big spending time of the year. I ended up with: an FMA t-shirt, a how to glomp t-shirt, a math/physics t-shirt, a free t-shirt (plain blue), FMA necklace, silver watch, FMA wallet, Kyo plushy for my sister’s b-day, FB purse for CBL for Christmas, Yuki pin for immediate present, Lina picture, FFVII Piano CD, Tenchi Muyo (3 of the DVDs were $5. Score Sunday sales!), Second session of Kenshin ($90, 8 dvds.), AMG (2 DVDs, $10 each). *hordes like Greedy Pig*
From Artist Alley: Really cute stickers of Al, Ed (2), Kenshin, Riza and a Canti one someone gave me when they saw me in costume. Roy and Black Hayate bookmark and an Al and Ed print that is absolutely GLORIOUS. Plays with an idea I was thinking about too, but couldn’t do justice. One Bleach pin (of the female Shinigami. I talked to the people there about Ponies, She-Ra, Rainbow Brite…was very fun.) Three HP pins: powerpuff versions of Ron, Harry and Voldemort (who looks very funny). My cousin took the last Hermione one. *pouts* Also an Al one and a chibiish Greed one. *rubs back of head in sheepish manner* Never bought anything at Artist Alley before….
And that’s about it. I’ll post pictures once I can get them from my cousins, since they took the most. Will do Virginia Trip report if anyone is interested….
