Let me post about stuff no one cares about!

So. It has been a busy summer, and school has started. My summer job was a fantastic experience. I had wonderful coworkers, and learned a lot I can implement in my own classroom (and got paid for it). We're going it again next year, so I might get a chance to do it again.

My house situation is still in a holding pattern. However, the parents aren't charging me rent right now, so it isn't a big deal either way.

Otakon was a lot of fun. The Penguin (Azumanga Diaoh!) was a fantastic success. No one knows our Tokyo Babylon cosplay, but that's almost a given, since their costumes are kind of hard to recognize (thanks for changing them so often, Clamp. :P) and we did art book ones. (Simpliest Hokuto one that we had a color image for. >.>) My sister got to see the Canti effect, which was a first for her, and made her happy. Con was definitely more crowded this year, and sadly we had some scheduling problems with panels. On the plus side, I did not spend as much money as I have in some years (especially on fan art) because there wasn't a lot that really called to me that I didn't already own.

An outcome of Otakon was Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I raced through this series in two days, and can't wait until it's out on DVD so I can watch it again. I don't think I'll be writing a lot for it, but I really enjoyed the series itself. It was wonderfully solid, in my humble opinion. Homura is totally girl!Lelouch too. (Madoka must be Nunnally.)

Things have changed a lot around here. My dear baby sister is off at college (I don't care she's legally an adult, she'll always be my baby sister) and my Grandfather has moved to Texas. Two days before Irene hit the northeast I went up and helped clean up his house and pack. I spent a lot of time with my Uncle, who has definitely mellowed over the years substantially. I learned a lot of things, and got a job offer - which starts at more than my administration makes, haha. Of course, you have to work a) in Texas and b) in a Nuclear power plant. Not happening, though it was nice of him to offer - I think I impressed him with my work ethic.

A side affect of packing my grandfather up, however, is a great desire to get Rid of Stuff. I have cleaned two bags of worn out clothes out of my closet and tackled the guest room that functions as a closet for stuff. Right now I have 15 bags total of things to send out with VVA. I also donated two bags of books to the Library and five bags of VHS tapes (as much as I love some of these, there is no way that I can watch them anymore. I wouldn't trust one VHS player not to stick. I'll hope they come out on DVD one day).

We were okay during Irene. Got a little water in the basement, but other than that we were okay. We lost power for a few hours but other than that it was okay. Up where I work, however, things were bad. Thankfully the town I actually work IN becomes more or less and island, but those around it were pretty bad hit at points.

On Thursday and Friday we started back to school. On Tuesday we start with students. I can honestly say it was one of the worst starts to the year I've ever had. A lot of changes have been made at once, and not all of them have been made very well. So its frustrating a lot of people. There are something I'm looking forward to. Hopefully they'll go well.

Fic writing, by the way, will probably be tabled for a while. September is always a sticky month while we get used to things (and as I get used to my 100+ students). We hope to keep working on BE at least, because we're mostly down to revision and posting.

In happy events, however, it's my birthday tomorrow. :3 [personal profile] kiraya got me Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and lent me her DS so I could play it. My parents and I went 50/50 on a new stero system for my room that I'll hopefully get set up today. (The old one doesn't function anymore and I've been more or less without music up there for several months so this is great!)

I think that's everything. I really need to update more often so I don't have so much to do at once. o.O
